"Agape" is a 501C non-profit organization formed to help the children and extremely poor, sick and elderly in Vietnam. Agape works throughout the year with the local people of Vietnam to help build homes, and businesses. We dig wells, buy sewing machines, tricycles, oxen and build small shops to help bring independence. We send funds monthly to help the elderly. We provide money to help educate the children, pay tuition and provide pencils, notebooks, backpacks, pens, etc. We distribute rice, instant noodles, fish sauce, cooking oil, sugar and MSG as well as blankets and medicines to the poor of more than 33 villages. If there is a specific need, we try to meet it. Through our donations, we try to show our love and support for the very poor of Vietnam and give them hope. Agape's goal is to continue to make a difference in their lives.
Mai-Chi Nguyen escaped from Vietnam on a small boat in 1989. She was rescued on the sea and came to America. She worked 14-15 hours a day sewing to support her while learning English. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1996, Summa Cum Laude, and went to work for Bell Helicopter where she earned her master’s degree.
Mai-Chi was so totally dedicated to helping the people of Vietnam, she was an inspiration to her many friends. With the help of volunteers we formed a non-profit organization called “Agape” to aid the people of Vietnam in whatever ways we could.
We work to build homes and businesses; feed the poor; pay tuition and buy books and educational material for children. We provide materials and machines to help the Vietnamese earn a living.
Each year Mai-Chi goes to Vietnam to visit villages in need of our help.
